Pain Center Consultation at BIDMC Living with any kind of pain can be exhausting—both physically and mentally. If you are a patient with acute or chronic pain and you have not responded to conventional therapies, our team is ready with the experience and expertise to diagnose and treat your pain.

Our state-of-the-art facility features comfortable exam rooms, fully equipped procedure rooms and a complete recovery area.

Note: The Arnold-Warfield Pain Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center does not routinely prescribe long-term opioids for pain management. If it is decided that opioid medication is the appropriate way for you to manage your pain, our recommendations will be sent to your primary or treating provider. You will not be given a prescription for opioids during your initial visit. If you feel you may have an addiction problem, please discuss treatment options with your primary care provider. The BIDMC Department of Psychiatry also has treatment options for addiction and substance abuse disorder.

Pain Research and Clinical Trials

Our patients directly benefit from the major research conducted here at BIDMC. When you first meet with your pain specialist, you may be asked about your interest in participating in one of our clinical research trials.

While participation is voluntary, there are advantages to joining a study. First, it offers you the opportunity to gain access to the latest breakthrough treatments that often do not exist elsewhere. Participating in clinical trials also gives you a chance to be part of the discovery process as scientists find new methods to relieve pain and learn more about the many causes.

Even if you do not participate in a clinical research trial, you can be confident your treatment plan at the Arnold-Warfield Pain Center will include the most up-to-date and effective methods to help relieve your pain—based on our evolving scientific evidence as well as your own unique case.
