Preparing for Your Visit
Important information you'll need to schedule and prepare for an appointment with a BIDMC colon and rectal surgeon.

By calling the Colon and Rectal Surgery Appointment Line, physicians and patients can speak to an administrative assistant who will facilitate coordinating an appointment with the appropriate surgeon.
Please note that this line is intended for non-emergent or non-life threatening conditions only. In the case of a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or your local emergency response team.
Important information for your appointment:
Medical Records: Referring physicians and patients should send medical records, results of tests, and any other pertinent information ahead of time. You can fax the information to: 617-667-2978.
Insurance Referrals: Please remember that you may be required by your insurance company to obtain a referral from your primary care physician ahead of time.
Co-payments: If your insurance plan requires a co-payment at the date of service, please be prepared to pay your co-payment during the check-in process.
Please bring the following to your appointment:
- Your insurance card and hospital card (if you have one)
- Your co-pay, if applicable
- A list of medications that you are currently taking
- All medical information regarding your current diagnosis, such as MRI / CT scans, doctors' notes, and pathology reports.
