EPIC-CP: Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite for Clinical Practice

Peter Chang and a Prostate Cancer PatientAs survivorship after prostate cancer diagnosis continues to improve with advances in detection and treatment, the effects of treatment on health-related quality of life are becoming increasingly important. The changes in quality of life for each prostate cancer treatment modality are well-recognized, but objective characterization and quantification of such changes are challenging.

A validated tool specifically for prostate cancer patients — one that would be practical for use in both community and academic clinical practices — has not yet been realized. Hence, we set out to develop and validate a relatively brief and accessible quality of life instrument designed specifically for use in the routine clinical care of prostate cancer patients. This instrument is called EPIC-CP, which stands for Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite for Clinical Practice.
