Cardiovascular Care Measures & Volumes

The Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is dedicated exclusively to delivering all aspects of heart and vascular care to you and your family. The CVI combines cardiovascular medicine, cardiac surgery and vascular and endovascular surgery.

When choosing a hospital, patients in need of cardiac care should consider the hospitals experience, patient outcomes, efficiency of care and patient satisfaction with care.

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting CY2022

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is a cardiac surgery in which the blocked coronary artery is bypassed with the patient's own vessel to improve the blood flow to the heart. Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is an operation in which CABG is the only major cardiac surgery performed (without valve or heart rhythm surgery).

Focus on Quality Improvement and Patient Safety

STS National Database Participant LogoThe division of Cardiac Surgery participates in the STS National Database, which was established in 1989 as an initiative for patient safety among cardiothoracic surgeons.

Our participation in the database helps us identify new areas for quality improvement and provides a public record on the quality of care we deliver. We recently earned top honors in recognition of excellent patient care and outcomes in three categories: isolated coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG), isolated aortic valve replacement surgery (AVR) and combined AVR and CABG surgeries.
