Ultrasound Training
We offer various opportunities to learn ultrasound procedures in our echocardiography simulation lab, including those listed in the table below. Our lab is one of the most robust and prolific in the world. Led by Drs. Robina Matyal and Feroze Mahmood, these simulation sessions and courses use the following:
- Live lectures
- Online modules
- Apple iBooks (Cupertino, CA)
- Case discussions
- Observation in the OR
- Simulation on models and high-fidelity echocardiography simulators
- Interactive workshops
Courses in ultrasound, transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) are also held for other departments, including cardiology, surgery and emergency medicine.

| Course | Basic Ultrasound | Interns | Our interns participate in a 13-day basic ultrasound course to learn about “knobology”, ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia and vascular access, lung ultrasound, ultrasound in shock and echocardiography. |

Any fellow, resident or intern who wants additional practice on the simulators in our echocardiography lab is welcomed to schedule an appointment with Dr. Robina Matyal or one of our research fellows at any time. In addition, our online modules and Apple iBooks are readily available for all our trainees.
