Beth Israel Deaconess HealthCare-Chestnut Hill provides Pulmonary, Sleep Medicine and Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) for patients. Conditions we treat include:
- Sleep apnea/sleep-related breathing disorders
- Insomnia
- Narcolepsy
- Restless leg syndrome
- Circadian rhythm disturbances
- Parasomnias (such as sleepwalking and nightmares)
- Asthma, chronic cough, or shortness of breath/dyspnea
- COPD and lung conditions such as bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchiectasis (airway damage) or hemoptysis (coughing up blood)
- Pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lung arteries) and pulmonary embolism (blockage in the lung)
- Interstitial lung diseases (inflammation and scarring of lung tissue), such as idiopathic (unknown cause) pulmonary fibrosis
- Sarcoidosis (chronic lung disease)
- Mycobacterial disease (an infection causing lung symptoms not unlike tuberculosis)
- Lung nodules and lung cancer
Special Testing: PFT and Sleep
We are pleased to offer pulmonary function tests at Chestnut Hill, breathing tests to measure how well your lungs are working. The most common lung function test is spirometry, which measures the amount of air your lungs can hold and how long it takes to exhale.
Our Sleep Disorders Center includes pulmonary and neurology Sleep Medicine physicians. We offer overnight and daytime sleep laboratory studies at our main Sleep Lab at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham and also at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton. We also offer home sleep studies for our patients.
