The Department of Medicine at BIDMC hosts a weekly lecture series, often welcoming special guests to provide insight into different areas of expertise. On Thursday, Sept. 20, integrative medicine expert Deepak Chopra, MD, FACP, spoke about the link between consciousness and the universe in a lecture called, “The Nature of Reality.”

Chopra, who is the Founder of The Chopra Foundation, Co-Founder and Chairman of The Chopra Center for Wellbeing, talked about how consciousness can be scientifically explained. The bestselling author also talked about health, healing and feeling whole.

As healthcare providers, we work to heal people because we are working to heal our universe. Chopra said that this reality is what connects us as humans.

He ended the lecture with a concept that caregivers at BIDMC embody every day—love for our patients—reflecting our mantra of treating patients like family—and caring for them with dignity and respect.

The Dr. K.L. Chopra Lecture in Medicine and the Humanities was established as a gift from Deepak and his brother Sanjiv Chopra, MD, to honor their late father, Dt. Lt. Colonel K.L. Chopra, MBBS, FRCP.
