Orthoplastic Surgery
About Orthoplastic Surgery, Reconstructive Microsurgery & Limb Salvage
Orthoplastic surgery is a multidisciplinary approach that uses a combination of orthopedic and plastic surgery principles for treating musculoskeletal problems. An example of this is limb salvage where both soft tissue and bone are involved. Here are some examples for which Orthoplastic Surgery may be needed:
- failed joint replacements due to the lack of soft tissue
- peripheral nerve issues in orthopedic trauma patients
- vascularized bone transfers for fractures that don’t heal
- soft tissue reconstruction in patients with trauma or cancer
- lack of soft tissues or wound healing problems in complex spine patients
- nerve and neuroma management for patients that have had limb amputations
- limb salvage and preservation in patients with diabetes or neuropathy
