About Our Orthopedic Trauma Service
The Division of Orthopaedic Trauma provides extraordinary care for all types of musculoskeletal trauma and injuries. For most orthopedic trauma patients, patient care begins in the Emergency immediately post-injury. The first goal is to accurately diagnose and stabilize the patient’s injuries. Once this has been done, the patient may be admitted to the hospital.
BIDMC is a Level 1 Trauma Center and has state-of-the-art trauma operating facilities. Our experts include a dedicated traumatologist and are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to provide complete trauma care.
The physicians of BIDMC’s Orthopaedic Trauma team are proud members of the Harvard Orthopedic Trauma Initiative. The Initiative’s primary purpose is to foster collaboration among the orthopedic trauma services at all four Harvard Teaching Hospitals in Boston: Mass General Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
The Initiative is dedicated to excellence in orthopedic trauma education for medical students, residents and fellows across institutions. Trauma surgeons taking part in the initiative often collaborate to develop innovative clinical pathways and cutting-edge research.
