Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the specialty of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region.
The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at BIDMC collaborates with multiple healthcare specialists, including trauma surgery, otolaryngology/head and neck surgery and plastic surgery. While inpatient care and surgery may be performed at BIDMC, outpatient care is provided in collaboration with Boston University School of Dental Medicine and Boston Medical Center.
