Mental Health, Substance Use and Pregnancy Clinic
About Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Pregnancy
Pre-existing mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, substance abuse or eating disorders may pose unique challenges during pregnancy. Our multidisciplinary team of maternal-fetal medicine specialists, psychiatrists, nurses and social workers help optimize patients' wellness during pregnancy and beyond.
Whenever possible, we encourage patients to begin planning with your medical team before conception to optimize your health and prepare to manage pregnancy changes safely. Ideally, medication adjustments are started before or early in the pregnancy.
Pre-existing mental health conditions may include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Bipolar disorder
- Schizophrenia
- History of trauma
- Prior pregnancy loss or traumatic birth
- Eating disorders
- Substance use disorders
