Referring Patients to the BIDMC BreastCare Center

The BreastCare Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) offers high-quality care that combines advanced diagnostic services with a patient-centered approach. We collaborate closely with referring providers to ensure timely, effective communication throughout the patient’s journey, supporting you in enhancing patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Scheduling a Patient Referral Appointment

Call the BreastCare Center at 617-667-2900 to connect with a breast care coordinator for scheduling. This line is available for referring patients with benign conditions as well as breast cancer.

To refer a patient for breast imaging diagnostic services, please call 617-754-9500. Our radiologist are also happy to provide a second opinion on any breast imaging exam.

BIDMC offers physician-to-physician consultation with breast imaging specialists, breast surgeons, and other experts. This service can help you support your patient’s needs and enhance the care plan.

First Diagnostic Visit

Please help your patient prepare for their first diagnostic visit to the BreastCare Center at BIDMC. Our specialists need time to review information and records before the appointment to ensure an accurate diagnosis.

If breast imaging (mammogram, ultrasound, or MRI) and breast biopsy were done within the BIDMC system, we will gather images and reports for our team of specialist(s) to review.

If breast imaging and breast biopsy were done outside the BIDMC system, and the patient would like a second opinion or to transfer care, please assist your patient in gathering materials before the appointment.

What We Need

To ensure timely scheduling and coordination of care, we will need the following prior to the patient's first visit:

• A faxed referral authorizing a minimum of three visits, valid for one year
• Pathology slides and corresponding reports
• Imaging reports from the last three years
• Recent laboratory results
• Any other relevant medical records
