BOSTON – Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) today announced that one of its intensive care units, Finard 4, received the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence.

The Beacon Award is a national three-year award that recognizes exceptional patient care and a healthy work environment. BIDMC’s Finard Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit is one of only six ICUs in Massachusetts currently recognized with a gold-level Beacon Award.

“This is a remarkable achievement for this unit,” said Pat Folcarelli, Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services and Cynthia and Robert J. Lepofsky Chief Nursing Officer. “It is a testament to the commitment and caliber of the frontline staff and leadership. It signals their unwavering dedication to providing the best possible care for patients and families, and to creating and nurturing a supportive, enriching practice environment for staff.”

This award determined that the nurses of the Finard unit demonstrated success in leadership, staff engagement, communication, professional development, and evidence-based practice.

“This is a tremendous acknowledgment of the Finard ICU team’s commitment to providing exceptional critical care to our patients and families. They have created a healing environment that facilitates extraordinary collaboration and exemplary care,” said Suzanne Joyner, Associate Chief Nurse for Critical Care and West Campus Inpatient Services.
