BOSTON – U.S. News & World Report has named Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) as a 2024 Best Hospital for Maternity Care. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.
The annual evaluation is designed to assist expectant parents and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care. BIDMC earned a High Performing designation in recognition of maternity care as measured by factors such as newborn complication rates. This is the third year in a row that BIDMC has received this designation.
“We are extremely proud to be continuously recognized for providing the highest quality of care possible for pregnant people,” said Jeanne-Marie Guise, MD, MPH, MBA, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at BIDMC. “This designation is a result of the dedication of each and every one of our team members who prioritize the safety and experience of our patients and their families.”
U.S. News evaluated 680 hospitals that provide high-quality labor & delivery services for uncomplicated pregnancies for its 2024 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. Fewer than half of all hospitals that offer maternity care and participated in the survey received a High Performing designation.
The U.S. News Best Hospitals for Maternity Care methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality, such as C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, early elective delivery rates and vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) rates, among other measures.
In the US News & World Report 2023-2024 Best Hospital rankings that were released earlier this year, BIDMC was nationally ranked in four adult specialties. BIDMC was also rated high performing in four specialties and 16 procedures, including ovarian cancer surgery and uterine cancer surgery.
