What an adventure! We arrived home late last night, and, of course, have been wide awake since 3 AM. If anyone has any dealing with jet lag tips, I would love to hear them. At the moment, I am feeling fine, but know that the afternoon will be tough.
We had a marvelous time in Bangkok, Northern Thailand (the Golden Triange area), mostly Laos, a day in Burma, and two days in Hong Kong. Laos espcecially is breathtakingly beautiful, and stunningly poor. It feels like a place where time has stopped, and was, due to my childhood years in Asis, quite familiar. That is, other places where there have been growth and progress and changes seemed less known to me.
Two days were spent on a slow boat down the Mekong, admiring scenery that looks like ancient Chinese brush paintings. We spent one of those nights in a charming "hotel in the jungle" kind of place, and the second night in a tent without electricity or hot water in a village. The second night, certainly less comfortable, was memorable and very special. Everywhere the food was terrific, and we loved trying so many new things.
Here is a picture from the boat. Tomorrow I will be back to business on this blog
