Once again, our friends at Living Beyond Breast Cancer (www.lbbc.org) are offering an excellent free teleconference on fear of recurrence. For most women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, this is the single most difficult issue. How do you live your life with this terror hanging over your shoulder? As I promise women who are newer to this world, the safe/lucky passage of time is really the only thing that helps. Eventually, it moves from being right in front of your face to somewhere at your side, on your shoulder, eventually behind you--always ready, of course, to pounce. The goal is clear: to find a way to live as though the cancer will not return. Whether it does or whether it does not, living in continual fear will only wreck the quality of our days. If we do have to deal with this in the future, all the days and weeks of anticipatory worry won't have helped one bit.
