Breast Cancer and Sex

Ah, another chance to write about this favorite topic. As I have said before, a diagnosis of and treatment for breast cancer is never a sexual aide. For most women, concerns about intimacy are pretty far down the worry list in the beginning. During treatment, it is hard to feel desirable and womanly and hot when you are bald, nauseated, and hot from hot flashes. You may crave and need comfort and physical closeness, but it is probably more about tenderness and caring and love than about physican abandon.
Fortunately, it does get better. Although there may be permanant changes in our bodies and we may have to contend with the effects of menopause, almost all of us find our way back to a satisfying intimate connection with the person we love.
