Treatment Options for Stage IV
I often write about the marvelous website and resources of Living Beyond Breast Cancer (www.lbbc.org). They have an especially helpful section for women with Stage IV/metastatic breast cancer, and I am going to include one small part of that, FAQs re treatment options. As an aside, I well remember my first years working in oncology, and the dearth of treatments for women in this situation. With the exception of a few clinical trials, there was exactly one treatment available, Adriamycin, in 1980. Once that stopped working, there was nothing else. Although we do not yet have a cure for metastatic breast cancer, there is a very long list of effective treatments, and I know many women who do well for years.
