Thanksgiving

This is my favorite holiday. It is all about food, no gift shopping required. It is all about traditions and my grandmother's china and the same recipes every year. It is all about our traditional family holiday toast: "To the family: a few of whom are here together, some of whom have come before us, most of whom are yet to come. To the family."
It is also, for me, about all of you. There is much in my life to appreciate, and I feel lucky and grateful. In spite of having had two breast cancers, I am healthy--as far as I know. I have a healthy family whom I love, a home that I treasure, and work that is a blessing. The work is you. Every single day I am surrounded by kin; we share an important experience, speak the same language, know one another's hearts. I watch you all, ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and I learn. Your courage and grace and wisdom have informed my life, and my primary thought of thanksgiving today and always is for you.
