Breast Surgery Pictures

Many women are interested in seeing pictures of outcomes of breast surgery. Certainly, women who need a mastectomy and are wondering about reconstruction (whether or not to have it and which options to consider) are often highly motivated to seek examples of breasts post surgery. But women who are having lumpectomies/wide excisions also want to see pictures to understand how their breasts may look after the operation.
Plastic surgeons who do breast reconstruction usually have pictures in their offices to show prospective patients. The trouble with this is that it would be the rare plastic surgeon who shared her/his not so great outcomes. The pictures are usually of the best cosmetic results. Although everyone hopes for this, it does not always work out that well--and it may be even more distressing and disappointing if the only pictures you have seen have looked like beautiful 25 year old breasts.
Many women who have had breast reconstruction are willing to show other women their new breast. Since the reconstructed breast often feels "not really me", the usual modesty concerns don't always apply. If you are in this situation and would like to see other women's results, ask your plastic surgeon or breast surgeon for referrals. Or contact me as I frequently connect women with one another for this purpose.
