It is difficult to come to terms with our changed bodies. Whatever surgery we have chosen, we likely look and feel somewhat (or very!) different than we did pre breast cancer. There are a few famous photographs of women post mastectomy: in my office, I have a old wonderful one of a strong, muscled woman who is standing with her arms flung joyfully towards the heavens--one breast and one tattooed flat chest proudly displayed. There was a gorgeous picture of a model on the New York Times magazine some years ago.
