Drs. Antoine Kaldany and Burton Rose
In addition to an active involvement in clinical nephrology,
Dr. Antoine Kaldany has been director of the international Programs since 1986. The International programs are designed to attract and serve international patients, to foster clinical and scientific cooperation, and to organize seminars. In 2005-06, capitalizing on new technology within Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians for tele-conferencing, Dr. Kaldany is working with the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia to build a Renal program at the Dubai Health Care City. Dr. Kaldany's research interests include the delivery of health care to remote international sites and the development of new technologies for drug delivery and peritoneal dialysis. Drs. T. Steinman, R. Brown, and M. Williams continue in leadership roles at the National Kidney Foundation, the American Society of Nephrology, the Renal Physicians Association, and the Polycystic Kidney Research Foundation. Dr. Steinman has written extensively on issues of managed care and capitation as they affect nephrology. Dr. Burton Rose continues to work on expanding the scope of UpToDate, a computer-based medical education program. This program provides instant access to answers to commonly asked questions. The answers are written by internationally known experts and updated every four months. UpToDate is being used around the world in both academic and practice settings, and has received excellent reviews in many major journals. The UpToDate is the official educational program of the American Society of Nephrology, the American Thoracic Society, and several other national societies.
