Annual Meeting of the Boards

Daniel Jick and Kevin Tabb, M.D.The Annual Meeting of the Boards on October 9 welcomed new Board members into the fold and recognized existing leadership for their efforts over the past fiscal year. President and CEO Kevin Tabb, M.D., gave a keynote speech about BIDMC's extraordinary response to the tragic events at this year's Boston Marathon, and three exceptional early-career researchers — Mark Andermann, PhD, Zoltan Arany, MD, PhD, and Daniel Leffler, MD, — were honored with the inaugural Dvorak Young Investigator Awards. The event was also an opportunity to welcome Daniel Jick as the new chair of the Board of Directors, and the evening was capped off with a wonderful celebration of his predecessor, Stephen Kay, to recognize him for his three years of service in the role and his longstanding leadership. Changing Rhythms

On May 21, BIDMC’s Cardiovascular Advisory Committee welcomed 85 guests to the Four Seasons Hotel Boston for the educational breakfast, Changing Rhythms, where attendees learned more about the most challenging and prevalent heart conditions of our time.  Chaired by Jack Manning, member of the Board of Directors, the program featured presentations by a number of leading faculty from the renowned Harvard-Thorndike Arrhythmia Institute at BIDMC, which is led by Mark Josephson, M.D., chief of cardiovascular medicine.  The event also provided another opportunity to honor Josephson, who recently received the prestigious Paul Dudley White Award from the American Heart Association, for all his contributions to the field of electrophysiology.  BIDMC is currently trying to raise funds for a chair in Josephson’s name. Rethinking the Brain

Panel Discussion with Bonnie Wong, Ph.D., Alvaro Pascual Leone, M.D., Ph.D., and Ron Alterman, M.D.On Thursday, April 4, the BIDMC Board of Overseers presented Rethinking the Brain: Applying new concepts in neuroscience to prevent disease and improve health. This exciting hands-on event focused on a relatively new concept in neuroscience that turns the long-held belief that the adult human brain is hard-wired and unchangeable on its head. Through interactive exhibits and informative discussions, attendees learned about our leading-edge advances that do not simply mask the symptoms of neurological disease, injury, or aging, but actually change the brain and alter its long-term function. For photos from the event, take a look at our photo gallery. Palm Beach

BIDMC’s annual celebration, which took place on January 31 at The Breakers, showcased leading physicians and researchers from its Cancer Center and several patients who have benefited from their lifesaving efforts. The evening led off with the announcement that Leon V. and Marilyn L. Rosenberg Family Foundation has pledged $10.5 million to create the Leon V. and Marilyn L. Rosenberg Clinical Cancer Center at BIDMC and enable the medical center to make substantive investments to co-locate cancer services, enhance patient and family programs, and advance its cancer vaccine research initiative.  The program culminated in a heartwarming tribute to Thelma Linsey, a longstanding supporter of BIDMC’s breast cancer program, who chaired the event. For photos from the event, take a look at our photo gallery.
