Social Work Programs

The Social Work Department runs a number of programs to provide patients with a variety of support services listed below:

The Center for Violence Prevention and Recovery (CVPR) was established in 1997 by the Social Work Department at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The mission of the CVPR is to provide services to victims/survivors of interpersonal violence; to train healthcare providers to identify and respond to patients who are experiencing or have previously experienced violence in their lives; and, finally, to improve the connection between healthcare providers and community agencies that provide violence prevention and recovery services. As the umbrella for the medical center's Rape Crisis Intervention Program, Safe Transitions: Domestic Violence Intervention Program, the CVPR also facilitates a comprehensive, integrated approach to addressing multiple forms of violence in people's lives. CVPR programs include: Safe Transitions, Rape Crisis Intervention, Community Violence Intervention, and the Advocate Education and Support Project (AESP).

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is pleased to offer the services of a harpist to play throughout the medical center to promote a healing environment that complements the medical center's world-class care.

Our lodging coordinator can assist out-of-town patients and family members with short and long term  housing solutions.  To learn more about the program, please following the lodging link above.

The Social Work Department offers a wide range and variety of group services, aimed at offering support and skill-building strategies. Groups offer a unique way of helping individuals and their families cope with various life events, challenges and illnesses. While most of our groups are specifically designed to meet the needs of patients and family members of the medical center, some groups may be open to people outside the medical center as well.
