Top-Notch Clinical Expertise and Compassionate Care

Bringing together the  latest in orthopaedics advances together with top-notch clinical expertise and compassionate care is at the heart of the Carl J. Shapiro Department of Orthopaedics at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Patient-Focused Medical and Surgical Care

We have an outstanding team of  specialists working collaboratively with you and your physician to provide you with patient-focused medical and surgical care for the full spectrum of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

Outstanding Team of Specialists

Our physicians keep current on the newest advances in orthopaedics care, including  arthroscopic surgery and minimally invasive procedures.

The department works in close collaboration with other BIDMC departments and specialists.

The department offers 24 hour-a-day/7 day-a-week coverage, including trauma call through BIDMC's Level I  Emergency Department and offers a unique multidisciplinary, collaborative care model that includes the following specialties:

Our Care Philosophy

Open Communication and Personal Attention

Each patient is unique, so our goal is to get to know you as a partner in your care. Open communication, personal attention, and shared decision-making provide the foundation for our relationship.

Comprehensive Physical Exam

We begin with a comprehensive physical examination using the most advanced imaging technology available. That enables us to provide you with an accurate diagnosis.

Develop Individualized Treatment Plan

For all of our patients, our goal is to develop an individualized treatment plan aimed at restoring the highest level of movement and function with the least risk.

Committed to Patient Education

Our practice is committed to patient knowledge so we will thoroughly discuss your condition and review all treatment options. For most, non-surgical treatments like lifestyle changes, medication, physical therapy and injections provide adequate relief from symptoms. Should your condition call for surgery, we are experienced and trained in the latest and most effective procedures, including minimally invasive surgical techniques and arthroscopy.

Regularly Communicates with Your PCP

BIDMC's orthopaedics staff regularly communicates with your primary care physician or referring specialist, keeping them abreast of your condition, treatment plan and progress. The department provides 24 hour-a-day/ 7 day-a-week coverage.
