Welcome Baby!

Welcoming a new baby into your life can be both an amazing and overwhelming experience, especially for first-time parents. Our care and support doesn't end when you leave the hospital.

It is important to remember that you also need to take care of yourself during this postpartum period. As always, if you have any concerns or would like further information, please talk to your health care provider.

Parent Connection

Ask any one who has children what it's like to be a parent, and you are likely to get a full range of responses that typically boil down to it's the most wonderful, challenging and life changing experience you can imagine. It's often difficult to adequately articulate exactly what that means, and even harder to comprehend, until you are living it. At BIDMC we offer our patients a continuum of care, starting from pre-conception, and continuing through to after your delivery when you leave the hospital with your baby and are home adjusting to your new life as parents.

The Parent Connection is a free service that offers new moms groups in several community locations as well as a mentoring moms service where parents are matched with a trained, volunteer mentor who provides weekly phone call support through the first twelve weeks post-delivery. Mentors lend valuable support, encouragement and reassurance as well as resource information particularly around breastfeeding, or when to call your pediatrician. As mentors initiate calls during the first days home from the hospital, they are often in a position to recognize early signs of a postpartum mood disorder and thereby help families get connected to the appropriate health care provider as early as possible. The program's new moms groups offer the opportunity to meet other new moms in your community and provide another place to ask questions. Prior to delivery, the program offers a workshop for expectant couples titled "Becoming Parents" that is aimed at helping couples anticipate and plan for their baby's arrival. The Parent Connection is an award winning program that has received rave reviews from participating families.
