Most of the screening procedures (colonoscopies, endoscopies, etc.) done in the Digestive Disease Center require a standard follow-up procedure to ensure there have been no changes in the interim. While this is an effective method for catching problems early enough to provide treatment, it is often a challenge for the patient to remember when their next procedure is due. It is also a challenge for the staff to keep up with the data and maintain timely notification procedures.
We are currently in the planning stages of introducing an automated database that will send notifications to patients regarding the due date of their next procedure. The database will integrate with our current electronic medical records to track procedure dates and produce automatic notification of patients coming due for their follow-up procedure. This will greatly increase patient access to care and quality of care, while requiring little to no additional effort from faculty and staff.
