Dermatologic Surgery Unit

The Dermatology Surgery Unit focuses on surgical treatment of skin cancers. The most common types of skin cancer, basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma, are best treated with Mohs micrographic surgery.

Mohs surgery is the most effective, precise, and tissue-sparing technique for treating skin cancer because the entire margin is examined microscopically using frozen section analysis to assure complete tumor removal. It is named after Frederic Mohs, MD, who pioneered the development of this type of surgery.
