Check Out Our Phan Club

By: Philly Laptiste

Dr. An Phan is one of our Family Practice physicians who joined the health center about five years ago. As a Family Practice physician, Dr. Phan sees patients from birth to end of life. Her earliest memory of wanting to be in the healthcare field started many years ago with the loss of a close family member. Dr. Phan grew up in Vietnam where the stakes of becoming a doctor were very high. Medical schools only accepted top students which resulted in her working very hard. With the encouragement of her parents, she successfully accomplished that goal.

Dr. Phan enjoys the cultural mix of patients that she sees at the health center and says, "It is very hard work but rewarding at the same time." The health center's connection to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is one in which she takes pride especially because of the specialty services available to patients. The challenges that Dr. Phan faces include worrying about patients that are visiting the United States that may have chronic illnesses. She shows a great deal of concern for their follow-up care and well-being. She also shares the same concern for the safey of our patients in the community. She hopes the health center's leadership on public safety issues will help to reduce violence and promote safety.

Outside of caring for people, Dr. Phan enjoys playing the violin, piano and tennis. She loves her work but she especially  appreciates  the staff at Bowdoin Street, "The great working staff is what keeps me here for a long time.  They are very compassionate," she said. Dr. Phan respects  her patients and trys to incorporate two things into her practice: "treat everyone equally" and "try not to keep patients waiting."

If you would like to join our "Phan" club, Dr. Phan is accepting new patients.
