CVI Heart Walk Team Kicks Off
With the help of the Longwood Grille & Bar, the CVI kicked off its 2012 fundraising for the
Boston Heart Walk on February 15 with a Wine & Chocolate fundraiser sponsored by the Grille. As a result, the team has already raised $2,600 for the American Heart Association's cardiovascular research programs. It's not too early to register for the 2012 BIDMC Heart Walk Team! This year, the walk at the Hatch Shell is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, a week later than usual.
National Walking Day
The CVI sponsored National Walking Day locally on April 4. The annual event is championed by the American Heart Association (AHA) and its partners to raise awareness of the cardiovascular benefits of walking. National Walking Day is part of the AHA's
My Heart. My Life. initiative, encouraging lifelong heart-healthy habits through comprehensive programs, tools and resources. The CVI, which also sponsors the
Boston Heart Walk and presents the
BIDMC Walking Club, encourages everyone who's physically able to walk 30 minutes a day for cardiovascular health. Walking has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity.
Watch Our Video: An Intimate Glimpse of Cardiac Surgery
The prospect of heart surgery can be daunting. To help patients know what to expect,
Kamal Khabbaz, MD, the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the CVI, commissioned
a video that is available on BIDMC's website. The video takes the viewer step-by-step through surgery, from arrival through preoperative preparation to the operating room to post-operative recovery. You'll meet members of the caregiver team who describe what happens and why along the way, as well as patients discussing their experiences and emotions.
