Primary Care and Specialty Services
The Department of Medicine is the largest and most diverse department in the Medical Center.
With a substantial primary care base, which generated over 265,000 outpatient visits last year, and ties to community clinics that provide care to the underserved throughout Boston, we serve a large and diverse patient population. We provide services that range from primary care to the most sophisticated of specialty services through our divisions of medicine.
Highest Quality Health Care
We provide health care of the highest quality. The foremost dimension of quality is access; if you cannot see us promptly for your medical problem, then we cannot help you promptly. The Department prides itself on making its clinical services accessible to patients in a timely manner. A new patient appointment is available within days of a telephone request in nearly all of our clinics.
Quality Improvement Programs
Our quality improvement programs have inspired us to give better, safer, more efficient care in all of the divisions of Medicine. Our physicians have led the way within the Medical Center to making this among the very safest places in the nation to be hospitalized.
Research
Our research programs are focused on finding new ways to cure disease. Though they range from structural biology to health care policy, their focus is on improving the care of our patients.
Education
With 300 residents and fellows, we train a diversity of clinicians, teachers and investigators through our medical education program.
