Thoracic Oncology Program
Our Thoracic Oncology Program offers multidisciplinary expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of:
- Lung cancer, both non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer
- Esophageal cancer (the esophagus is the tube that carries food from the throat to the stomach)
- Thymic tumors (also called thymomas, these cancers start in the thymus, a key organ in the body's immune system that sits in front of, and just above, the heart) and other tumors in the mediastinum (the compartment between the lungs)
- Other thoracic malignancies including tumors of the pleura (the layer of tissue that covers the lungs and the tissue that lines the chest wall), and other rarer types of chest cancer
- Cancer that has metastasized to the lung or chest cavity. Metastases are cancer cells that have spread from an original or primary site to one or more locations or organs elsewhere in the body. For instance, cancer that begins in the colon (primary colon cancer) can metastasize to the lung.
We also treat a number of benign (non-cancerous) thoracic-related conditions in our Chest Disease Center.
