The Torso Project

This is a really neat idea and project: the chance for women post breast cancer surgery (of any kind) to make a mold of their torso and then let their imaginations free: paint, feather, pictures, glitter, whatever moves you. I have seen a few of these and seen more in pictures, and it is clear that some women really are healed and gratified by this work--and had fun doing it.

Here is the description from their website:

One in Eight: The Torso Project

One in Eight: The Torso Project is a collaborative art project consisting of workshops and exhibits that aims to bring awareness and healing to the incidence of breast cancer.

Women affected by breast cancer participate in workshops where they cast their torsos in plaster and create healing works of art. At a later date participants show their completed torsos at a community exhibit.

Look at the website for more information and pictures:

Now, hoping that you have looked at the website and are enthused, here is the best thing: There is a workshop in Leverett, MA next Saturday and Sunday. You can go alone, take a friend, whatever feels most comfortable--but will have a chance to make a mold of your torso. You do need to pre-register.
