Environmental Champions

Each year, hospital employees nominate colleagues who have championed environmentally sustainable changes in their respective areas. About 20 nominees are selected and awarded green jackets at our annual Healthy Work Healthy Home award breakfast.

Andrea Bernhardy, Ernie MIller and Hernan Sanchez Research North For piloting and then successfully establishing a comprehensive single stream recycling program at Research North that recycles 39 tons per year.
Christine Faulkner Emergency Department For championing recycling in the Emergency Department.
Jen French     Bowdoin Street For expanding the scope of the  Bowdoin Street Healthy Champions program to include environmental issues in order to engage the next generation of envrionmental champions .
 Steve Grabow Pharmacy For setting up and enthusiastically championing a pharmacy recycling program so comprehensive that it has resulted in a 1:1 ratio of recycling bins to trash barrels.
 Kevin Lincoln   Maintenance For championing and facilitating the hospital's conversion from bottle-fed coolers to filters.
Lorinda Longhi   Pathology For enthusiastically championing recycling in the Microbiology lab by teaching others how to recycle correctly.
Misti Mullins and Tim Parritt Radiology For creating and then championing a comprehensive 2 campus Radiology recycling program.
Rachel Sabbag APG Orthopedics For championing and encouraging a culture of recycling in her APG clinic.
Elizabeth Stokler Ophthalmology For championing recycling in Ophthalmology-- a Shapiro clinic that still requires employees to pull and transport their own recycling bags.
Hector Torres EVS For designing and implementing a reusable biohazard box program that has elimanted 4.2 tons of waste, to date.
Lucero Vega Research Facilities For voluntarily coordinating a program to reuse or donate surplus lab supplies.
Dee Woolley OB For piloting and championing multiple green iniatives on her 3 floors.
