Mug Shots
Look who's been caught using a reusable beverage container:
"
Carole Sesling, Health Care Quality : I wanted to do my part at BIDMC to be green. As an extra bonus, I only pay $1 to refill my cup. How easy can you get? "
"
Bill Burley, Real Estate and Transportation: I hate styrofoam.
"
Deb Savage, Richie Perez and Chrissie Dinardo, Periop/PACU: We keep mugs here so we don't have to use styrofoam that lasts 500 year and leaks "unknown chemicals when it's heated. The discount is a plus and the mug rack also gives the lounge a homey feeling. You are also sure it's clean because you clean it yourself.
"
Ivy Sandrino, OR: My coffee tastes better when it's in a mug. Styrofoam makes the coffee taste bad.
"
Andrew Bissaro, Hem-Onc: It's easier to carry a large water bottle around than to wonder where your next glass of water is coming from. It's also healthier because stainless-steel bottles don't have the cancer-causing chemicals found in some plastic bottles.
"
Ralph Wallace, Programs Controls: I just like it. This mug comes with a tea infuser. The glass is clean, sterile, easy to wash and keeps the tea warm. It's convenient.
"
Doug Barletta, Mark Lukitsch & Tom Schnare, Engineering:
Mark: I use a mug because when you buy water, you are paying 3-4 times the cost of a gallon of gasoline to buy something that we can get for free out of the tap. We have perfectly good tap water can be drawn from the sink in less time than it would take to walk and buy it in a bottle.
Doug: Tap water run through my filter is better than bottled water. Disposable cups are expensive to get rid of and aren't very sturdy after a couple of uses. I am clumsy so my plastic bottle holds up when I drop it.
Tom: My mug was a gift. I use it for coffee and water because it costs so much less. I don't see any reason to throw away money.
