Environmental Initiatives

Here at BIDMC we believe that environmental responsibility is an integral part of high quality patient care and prevention. We have been recognized for the work we have been doing both locally and nationally:

• Practice Green Health's Partner for Change With Distinction Award. (2011 & 2012)
• CIty of Boston Boston Green Business Award (2012). 
• Mass Savers award for energy conservation work.  (2011)
• EPA Achievement Award Winner for your Food Recovery Challenge (2011)
• Excellence in Transportation Demand Management (2011)
• Mass Department of Transportation's Spotlight award for our leadership in Commuter Options (2012)

The direction and progress of our sustainability work is overseen by a committee of over  25 managers  and the day to day implementation is handled by our fulltime Sustainability Coordinator. While a committed leadership team can build systems, it is the combined effort and commitment of all of our employees that has enabled us to become more sustainable every day. Each year we recognize the work of a few such committed employees, naming them Environmental Champions, and outfitting them with green fleece vests.
