Physician Groups at BIDMC
Our medical staff includes the following major physician groups.
Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
is the employed physician group at BIDMC. HMFP employs approximately 800 Harvard Medical School faculty members, and has an exclusive affiliation agreement with BIDMC for research, teaching and patient care services. Each of BIDMC's 13 Departments has an HMFP Department Head who is the "Chief of Service." HMFP provides comprehensive practice management services (e.g., benefits, payroll and accounting) to the BIDMC faculty members.
Beth Israel Deaconess Physician Organization(BIDPO), LLC
, is an independent physician network and contracting organization. BIDPO has over 1,700 providers (350 primary care providers and 1,400 specialists) including HMFP at BIDMC. Through coordinated, integrated medical management programs and managed care contracts, BIDPO promotes the highest quality of patient care, safety, and cost-effective services among its participating providers.
In 2012, BIDPO was among a handful of elite provider organizations and healthcare systems nationwide selected to participate as a Medicare Pioneer Accountable Care Organization (ACO). This transformative
new initiative encourages the development of groups of doctors and other healthcare providers to work together to provide coordinated, high quality care. Providers who band together through this ACO model will be required to meet quality standards based upon, among other measures, patient outcomes and care coordination among the provider team.
Beth Israel Deaconess HealthCare
(BIDHC) is a network of more than 150 primary care physicians and specialists in 33 practice locations conveniently located across Greater Boston, and much of eastern Massachusetts. These practices, legally incorporated as Affiliated Physicians Group (APG), are affiliated with BIDMC in Boston, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton, and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham.
HealthCare Associates
(HCA) is BIDMC's hospital-based primary care practice. HCA sees more than 41,000 patients annually in two office locations in the Shapiro Clinical Center at BIDMC.
